Chapter- 4 Gnana Yoga:
This chapter is about Fusion of knowledge and Action.
And our most frequently heard poem.
“
Yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharata
Abhythanamadharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham
Paritranaya sadhunang vinashay cha dushkritam
Dharmasangsthapanarthay sambhabami yuge yuge
“
Krishna himself will come in different avatars when there is a need to reestablish principles of dharma or even to protect his devotees.
He explains the antiquity and science of knowledge and how knowledge flows down through generations.
-> We need to teach our kids what ever we have learned while growing up. It is not enough to force kids to study math and science. We need to teach them what makes them ultimately happy. This is possible only by practicing.
-> Pray and believe in God. Worship/sacrifice has many paths, including the paths of meditation, self-denial(fasting, donations), and study of scriptures. However, these paths are subsets of the main path: right action.
We see numerous examples and hear so many people saying that Bill gates didn’t do Saraswati Pooja, Warren Buffet didn’t do Lakshmi Pooja, etc. The most important thing we have to learn from them is that they followed the correct path of right action with dedication and focus while strongly believing in “Work is worship”. We need to pray to god to help us focus and bless us with dedication to do our work.
-> Wisdom is the outcome of right action. Thus, it is important to have a wise teacher as a guide.
Knowledge is a wonderful weapon. Krishna explains the qualities of a student fit to receive this knowledge.
One needs to be humble and ask questions to teacher. Focus and curiosity are the most important qualities of a student.
Not everything can be learned with the internet unless we appreciate its value and have faith in authenticity.
We use Wikipedia for everything, but do we really trust it when you realize you can go and edit a wiki page when you want to add more information?
Follow and learn from authentic web pages/ youtube talks as we can’t learn everything from physical Guru.
Only then we put in the effort required to implement it practically in our lives.
We need to remember Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg also take suggestions from Warren Bufett before taking major decisions.
Spend some time with real friends instead of being on Facebook and learn from their experiences.
We should talk to our kids on how to respect and like teachers.
One simple thing we can practice is : Stop complaining about the teacher when a question is incorrectly marked in our kids answer sheet. Instead, appreciate how they can manage class of kids for whole day.
-> What you do is, is what you get.
I believe in saying that if we do something good or bad, we receive the same action in 3 days/weeks/months/years/decades.
-> We should treat all living beings equally. There should not be any difference to rich, poor, educated, uneducated, cat, dog , elephant or any other living being. If we understand Gita principles, there is no room for racism or slaughtering.
